For us, it really came down to what we wanted to ride.  At Birch Hollow, we're not just breeders. We're sport horses "consumers" as well.  From pony clubbing and eventing through the '80's, to horse showing through '90's to the present, from the schooling levels to the 1.40m Amateur Owner Jumpers, from the AO hunters, to a $50,000 Grand Prix, we've ridden in all these rings all over the East Coast of the US.

The common denominator has been good horses.  But, they are seemingly always in short supply.  We've bought and traded with many different domestic dealers and shopped in Europe extensively. But where really good horses were concerned, it always seemed to come down to a single theme:  good breeding, particularly good mares.  Tired of the running around, tired of over hyped and over sold horses, we set out to produce a small number of prospects each year from the very best mares we could assemble by a top young stallion or stallions with impeccable blood, beautiful type, and massive talent.

The resulting young horses on this website represent our efforts to use the best Holsteiner blood available to us to produce absolutely top young sport horses.  It is of course always a work in progress.  But we are confident the discriminating shopper will see the obvious talent and quality in the youngsters we have produced and will continue to produce.  The foal galleries and "For Sale" and "Sold" listings will provide slide shows and videos of these young horses. The mare and stallion pages will provide background and insight concerning our foundation stock.  And please pay close attention to the mare pages.  We believe the mares are far and away the most important component of any top breeding program and ours have a littany of pedigree, sport and production highlights to help illustrate their importance and demonstrate the source of our faith in them as producers.
