Tia Cassina is a 16.1 hand 2003 Holsteiner mare, Cassini II/Lavaletto/Acord II, stam 318A2. Though her sire Cassini II needs no introduction, it is her maternal pedigree that deserves the most attention. Her mother, O'Lavaletta, is a full sister to an international jumping horse and half sister the 2009 approved Quidam de Revel son Quidam's Accord, bought by Paul Schockemohle. The three mares after her mother, Jasmin IV, Jasmin VI, and Dominique, boast two European mare championships and numerous international jumping horses and approved stallions. And to add some more relevance, Nick Skelton's mazing young Grand Prix winner Carlo 273 is from the same maternal branch. His mother Gunda traces right back to Jasmin IV!
But this mare is for sport. She spent 2009 getting lots of level 3 and 4 mileage with numerous placings and a few wins. But, she arrived a Birch Hollow in need of some improvement in her flatwork in order to reach the upper levels we think she capable of, and indeed she's very capable. She's a blood horse with plenty of "go", but easy to rate. She can go deep and explode over the top of a jump and shows all signs of being able to comfortably handle the 1.40m amateur divisions, and more. Easily the most careful horse we've had, she possesses the foot speed to win in any ring. She is shown here schooling 1.35m easily.
Tia is now getting good prizes in the low AO. Our plans for her in 2011 include more AO mileage and the 7/8 year old division. See video of her flat schooling (trot), (canter), and jump schooling, long version, short version.
